Jewel J. grew up in Arlington Tennessee; which is located near Memphis. Jewel started singing in her church at the young, tender age of ten. Jewel J. lived in Chicago for seven years before relocating to Memphis. Upon her return to Memphis she joined her church choir. Although her roots are gospel oriented, she had a burning desire to become an R & B singer.
Jewel had minimum success performing with local Memphis bands. Jewel recorded a Bicentennial Album which led to concert tours abroad in Germany and Italy for U.S. Troops. In addition she also toured and performed in Japan and France.
Jewel's first big break came when she recorded songs with and became a background singer for Shirley Brown. Jewel J. also worked with artist like J. Blackfoot and Ann Hines. Jewel later formed a group called "Something Special" which included friends Mary Burgess, Tonya Jones and Jewel J. herself. They became the opening act and background singers for Denise LaSalle. Jewel was given the opportunity to record her first CD entitled "The Goddess of the Blues" This project led to a tour with Jerry Lee Lewis and paved the way for a music video featuring Kid Rock. Jewel J. was given a second opportunity to record a CD produced by Q.T. Records, Memphis, TN. On May 5th 2007 Q. T. Records released of Jewel J. New CD entitled "That's My Shugga Daddy" which features the single "I Need Someone" is getting great reviews.
That's my Shugga Daddy is being played throughout Alabama, Atlanta, Arkansas, Florida, Memphis, Mississippi, and Texas; working its way to all major cities.
Jewel J. is bringing a new Southern Soul flavor to the Blues.
